Maybe this is because I’m married to a fellow teacher, but it feels like our year starts each year in September. In January we make resolutions and reflect on what a new calendar year will mean in our lives but in September we end up going through many of these same rituals. Setting up my classroom each fall is an opportunity to get rid of unused items, like cleaning out a closet at home. Making a curriculum map with my team is like setting intentions for the new year. Over the summer, when my daily commitments are fewer, I’m able to consider new research and ideas with a clear mind.…
